He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Investment in infrastructure has long-term consequences for Auckland's future and will shape how well Auckland functions for future generations. Decisions on the future of Auckland’s infrastructure are city-shaping, long-lasting and expensive, requiring careful and thorough consideration.
We are seeking an outstanding strategic thinker to provide advice on how to ensure the investment into Auckland's infrastructure will underpin Auckland Council’s broader regional goals such as ensuring the efficient integration of land use and infrastructure, responding to climate change, addressing equity, and enabling improved development outcomes across Auckland.
This is an important role within a small team providing strategic, compelling advice to elected members and senior managers on a range of matters relating to Auckland’s infrastructure needs.
Based at the Auckland city centre, your team is at the heart of some of Auckland’s most important future decisions, both strategically and financially. You will work closely with council’s growth and transport strategy teams, and our operational departments, to ensure infrastructure decision making is integrated.

A genuine passion and interest in the future of Auckland and the role of infrastructure in the transition to a sustainable, zero-carbon future is important for this role, as are the ability to build productive collaborative relationships and provide compelling, persuasive advice.
You are able to write clearly and concisely, have well developed interpersonal skills, and as such are able to interact and influence a varied audience.
The following are also desirable:
- exposure to strategic asset management/planning
- experience in applying analysis tools that inform strategic decision-making (for example, social return on investment, sustainability, or resilience)
- experience and/or interest in infrastructure financing and project finance
