Tātaki Auckland Unlimited (TAU) is Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s cultural, events and destination agency. It is an Auckland Council-controlled organisation that works to make Auckland a vibrant place to live and visit, through events, experiences and taonga (treasures).

Do you have a technical production background and a passion for creating safe, practical ways of working? 

 

We’re looking for a Safety Advisor – Technical Operations to join our Technical Production team. This could be a great next step for someone with a background in technical production areas of Lighting, Staging, Sound and Audiovisual, events, venues who has a strong interest in safety and wants to develop further in this space. 

 

This is a hands-on role where you’ll spend time with our technical teams, Production Managers and contractors and clients, helping make sure safety is practical, understood and built into the way we deliver events. 

 

You’ll review event safety plans and SOPs, undertake workplace inspections, support higher-risk technical activities, contribute to toolbox talks and identify where further training or guidance is needed. A big part of the role will be building relationships and bringing people along with you to strengthen our safety culture. 

 

You don’t need to come from a traditional Health and Safety Advisor background. If you bring strong technical industry experience and a practical understanding of safe ways of working, further health and safety development can be provided. 

 

This is a permanent, full-time role based primarily at Aotea Centre, generally Monday to Friday, with some flexibility required around events and flexible working arrangements considered where possible. 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you 

You’ll understand the realities of working in technical production and be comfortable engaging with technicians, Production Managers, contractors, clients and other stakeholders. 

 

You’ll bring: 

  • Five or more years’ experience in technical production, entertainment, events, venue operations, production and/or health and safety 
  • A good understanding of operational risk and safe working practices 
  • Experience with operational procedures, SOPs or safe systems of work 
  • Confidence engaging with people and influencing positive change 
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach 
  • The ability to stay calm and make sound decisions in a busy event environment 

 

A formal Health and Safety qualification is advantageous but not essential. We’re interested in your industry knowledge, practical experience and ability to build strong relationships with our teams.

The salary range for this role is $88,528 to $119,773 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
