Recovery Lessons and Transition Lead

Auckland Council’s Recovery Office is looking for a Lessons and Transition Lead to join the team until October 2025. Based in the Auckland city centre with the flexibility to work from home or a Council hub. 

 

This role is critical for leading a rolling review of the 2023 cyclone response and embedding the lessons to ensure future recovery preparedness. You will champion the commitment to capability development and continuous improvement.  

 

You could expect to work on: 

  • Planning and delivery of the lessons management programme for the 2023 storm recovery 
  • Leading the implementation of the transition plan to build future BAU capability ahead of the next recovery 
  • Leading engagement with other councils to deliver a set of joint recommendations for central government  
  • Delivering an engagement programme to seek feedback from Auckland homeowners and communities impacted by the 2023 North Island Weather Events  

 

He kōrero mōu: About you 

 

This role is ideal for a well-established leader with significant experience in full-cycle programme management. The Recovery Office oversees large-scale, multi-disciplinary workstreams, making it crucial for you to simplify complex information into clear and actionable plans. 

 

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a strategic thinker who can set clear direction and confidently communicate, motivate, and influence a broad range of stakeholders across the council group, and including political leaders and senior executives. 

 

We are specifically looking for experience:  

  • 15 years’ leading and managing projects /programmes of work in a complex organisation  
  • Delivering strategic outputs based on engagement with a large number of stakeholders across a complex work programme 
  • Strong facilitation skills and experience leading high-performing teams  
  • Embedding learning into business practices and capability.
