He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

Auckland Council’s Financial Strategy department has an opportunity for a Programme Manager to join the team, managing the delivery of long-term investment decision-making and performance reporting. This is a really exciting, permanent opportunity to work with a skilled team of people making a direct impact for our very own Tāmaki Makaurau.

The role has 3 direct reports, and you’ll need to provide support and direction for Project Managers and their support teams, ensuring everyone has a clear understanding of roles and responsibilities.

 

You can also expect to work on:

  • Identifying, monitoring, and coordinating the interdependencies between related work programs including, but not limited to annual plan, long-term plan, annual report and other financial strategic plans, policies or initiatives.
  • Providing advice and support to the Mayor, councillors, and the executive leaders to enable decision making
  • Monitoring, reporting, and mitigating project issues and risks
  • Establishing and maintaining quality standards
  • Re-appraising and rescheduling the project plans/timelines to respond to changes in priorities

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

This role requires strong experience in similar programme management roles, from within large and complex organisations. This will mean being familiar with working with senior leadership and elected members to resolve major issues when required. 

You will be able to see the high-level overview of the organisation and effectively negotiate and implement decisions and actions that support our strategy.

 

We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • Capturing opportunities to maximise business benefits and focus on uncertain events in a positive manner
  • Finding and negotiating for critical subject matter experts to work on each project
  • Excellent knowledge of best practice project management frameworks

 

You will also need to be a motivator and champion for people! You’ll encourage collaborating on achieving the council’s strategies and goals. Understanding and awareness of the relevant political issues and challenges will also be a useful skill.
