He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We are looking for a Programme Coordinator to support the delivery of engaging research and heritage programmes across Auckland Council Libraries.

Research and Heritage Programming sits within the Libraries Public Engagement team, and this role plays a key part in helping bring our Research and Heritage collections and stories to life through public‑facing events, activations, exhibitions and outreach activities. You’ll work closely with colleagues, speakers, partners and communities to ensure programmes are well‑coordinated, welcoming and professionally delivered.

This is a permanent 32-hour-per-week position.

Research and heritage collections hold powerful stories about who we are and where we come from. This role helps ensure those stories are accessible, engaging and relevant by supporting high‑quality public programmes that invite people to connect, learn and participate.

By coordinating the practical and people‑focused elements of programme delivery, you help create welcoming spaces where communities feel supported to engage with Auckland’s heritage.

 

Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities

  • Support the planning, coordination and delivery of research and heritage programmes and events

  • Manage practical and logistical details for public‑facing programmes, from early planning through to delivery

  • Provide manaakitanga to speakers, partners, vendors and audiences, ensuring a positive and inclusive experienceSupport public‑facing events by welcoming audiences and assisting with hosting as required

  • Maintain programme documentation, records and calendars to support planning and reporting

  • Assist with exhibition delivery and related programme support

  • Contribute to evaluation and feedback processes to support continuous improvement

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Public Engagement team, Research and Heritage Services,  and the wider Auckland Libraries whānau

  • Uphold health and safety best practice across all programme delivery

You’ll bring:

  • Experience supporting or coordinating programmes, events or community‑based activities

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to juggle changing priorities

  • Clear and confident communication skills, including in public‑facing settings

  • A strong customer service mindset and understanding of manaakitanga

  • The ability to work well with a diverse range of people and stakeholders

  • An interest in research, heritage, libraries or cultural programmes (experience is a bonus, not a requirement)

Salary:  $65-$77k plus 3.5% kiwisaver based on skills and experience
