He angitūtanga: The opportunity
 
Transport is critical to Auckland’s future. Decisions made today about the future shape of Auckland’s transport system will impact on the success of the city and the well-being of Aucklanders for decades to come. 
 
We have a permanent opportunity for a Principal Transport Advisor.   We seek an outstanding strategic thinker who will work on some of the most critical issues that will shape Auckland’s future including: 
 

•    what should Auckland’s future transport network look like?
•    how can transport support Auckland’s prosperity?                     
•    how should transport shape and respond to Auckland’s growth?
•    how can we encourage more Aucklanders to use public transport and active modes?
•    how can we significantly reduce transport emissions while improving safety and reducing congestion? 
•    how can we get more out of the existing transport network?  
•    how can we improve access and transport equity for all Aucklanders?
 
Present strategic, compelling and well evidenced advice to elected members and senior managers on all these issues and more. Form productive relationships with colleagues from within the Transport Strategy Team, other parts of council, Auckland Transport, central government, Māori and other stakeholders. 
 
 

He kōrero mōu: About you
 
You bring significant experience in advising senior decision makers on strategy and policy matters, particularly in relation to transport and land use planning. Building relationships and working collaboratively will be second nature to you. You are able to communicate complex issues in a simple but persuasive manner, have well developed political acumen, and show good judgement.
 
A genuine passion and interest in the future of Auckland and its transport system is essential for your success in this role.
