He angitūtanga: The opportunity


We have a great opportunity for you to join our Governance Capability team. The team supports staff and elected members to build governance capability and give effect to Auckland Council’s unique governance model. We work in partnership with people from across the Governance Division and the wider council group.   


In this role you will help lead, develop and implement a complex, cross-organisation programme of activity aimed at lifting the quality of advice and support provided to decision-makers (elected and appointed). You will help develop and implement evaluation frameworks and communication strategies for the programme.


You are encouraged to contribute  your innovative ideas to both the quality advice programme and the work of the wider team.

He kōrero mōu: About you


Your background will likely include previous experience in a policy or advisory role where you have gained excellent knowledge of local government. Strong programme and project management skills are ideal, as is experience with culture change and managing relationships in complex organisations. 


Tertiary qualifications in Public Policy, Economics, Law, Planning, Business or similar will suit this role. Your analytical, critical evaluation and conceptual thinking skills will see you able to think through issues and maintain a strategic perspective. You are someone who delivers results.


With a real interest in developing others you will be able to engage your audience and take them on the journey with you. As a natural collaborator you will develop effective relationships with senior managers, staff, elected members and stakeholders both internal and external, to build organisational buy in to and leadership around the programmes’ goals and objectives.
