He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Are you passionate about reducing flood risk and creating a more sustainable environment for Aucklanders? Do you want to help deliver large-scale, transformational projects in areas hardest hit by flooding?

We’re looking for an experienced project manager, confident communicator with a proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary infrastructure design projects. This is your opportunity to drive real change—leading nature-based, green infrastructure projects that not only reduce flood risk but also restore ecosystems and strengthen community resilience.

As the Principal Project Delivery (Principal Project Manager) you will join the innovative Design Partnerships team, sitting in our Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience (HW&FR) department. Reporting through to the Manager Design Partnerships you will be one of three Principal Project Delivery team members and in future may have the opportunity to manage 1-2 direct reports.

In this pivotal role, you will provide expert technical and strategic guidance in delivering cutting-edge HW & FR projects within the Blue-Green Network programme of projects. You will lead a collaborative design and delivery approach, ensuring our projects meet both functional and community needs.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead large-scale, nature-based water infrastructure projects that are innovative, sustainable, and transformational for the communities they serve.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams and consultants, ensuring alignment across design, planning, community engagement, and delivery phases.
  • Drive collaboration with mana whenua, communities, technical experts, and elected members to ensure co-designed, fit-for-purpose outcomes.
  • Embed environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and cultural integration in every stage of project delivery.
  • Balance competing priorities within a complex governance environment, demonstrating excellent risk management and strategic decision-making.
