He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Policy Department leads work and provides advice on a wide range of important issues that matter to Aucklanders.  These include protecting our region’s biodiversity, supporting the wellbeing of Auckland’s diverse communities, planning for our long-term infrastructure needs, and providing vibrant, safe public spaces for a growing population.

Our kaimahi come from multiple backgrounds and disciplines including strategy, policy, research, and planning, but all share a commitment to improving the lives of Aucklanders.

We are continuously looking at ways of growing our expertise to more effectively deliver the integrated, robust advice our decision-makers and communities need from us. To help us achieve this, we’re embarking on a programme of work to better understand and develop our collective capability and ways of working, and we’re looking for a seasoned practitioner to help shape and lead it.

Enjoy the opportunity to be involved in capability development, practice and process improvement, coaching and mentoring our people, presenting to senior leaders, and initiatives that build our culture and help individuals, teams and workplaces thrive.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You have a background in policy, strategy or a related discipline, and have demonstrated experience in programme or project management within central/local government or highly complex organisations.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working ‘on the business’ as much as ‘in the business’, and is able to step back and think both strategically and tactically.  Direct experience with designing and delivering learning and development activities and quality initiatives in a comparable knowledge worker environment is an advantage.

You have a natural talent for analysis and sense-making, and an ability to articulate complex ideas concisely, verbally or in written form.

You are highly motivated, capable of working independently, but also value and enjoy collaborating with others.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

We offer challenging and stimulating work that will grow your leadership capability, build your profile and expand your networks.

And you will feel immense satisfaction from seeing the direct impact that your work has on our critical advice function, helping to deliver positive change for Tāmaki Makaurau.

In addition to our employee benefits, you will enjoy a hybrid work environment, with the ability to work from home and our Auckland city centre offices, and the support of a positive, experienced team.

This is a full-time fixed term opportunity until October 2025.  See the position description for more information.

Apply now - together we can create an Auckland we can all be proud of.

Applications close on Sunday 27 October 2024
