He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

Auckland has over 3,000 km of diverse coastline and Auckland Council has an important role in its management. Our coastal team in the Resilient Land & Coasts Department have a permanent opportunity for a Principal Coastal Adaptation Specialist. Reporting to the Coastal Management Practice Lead, you will lead the development and delivery of Shoreline Adaptation Plans across the region. Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • programme management, working closely with the Project Manager to co-ordinate the internal and external project team
  • leading community engagement events, including preparation of resources to raise awareness of coastal hazards and climate change
  • working collaboratively alongside other technical specialists to develop coastal adaptation strategies
  • building relationships with mana whenua
  • leading political engagement and reporting on each plan alongside senior management

 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual who is passionate about Auckland’s coastal environment, reducing natural hazard risks and the impacts of climate change.
 
You have demonstrated experience focusing on natural hazard science, planning and risk management in Auckland, including the coastal environment. With a proven ability to assess and plan for coastal hazards and risk, you can adapt your communication style to share this knowledge with the public and decision makers across the region. 
 
You can effectively engage and work closely with council organisations, consultants, academic bodies, central government and other industry experts across Auckland and New Zealand.  
You are output focussed, well organised and adept at coordinating multiple stakeholders from a range of backgrounds. You are adaptable in the face of changing requirements and resilient when dealing with challenging conversations.
