He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council has an exciting opportunity for asset management experts.

We plan to invest nearly $300 billion in infrastructure between 2024-2054 (86% of council’s budget to 2034). When you add in non-infrastructure assets it gets even larger, and we want your expertise to help ensure ratepayers funds are used wisely and that we sustainably deliver the right services to the people of Auckland.

We have started a major journey of transformation to align with the ISO55000 series, starting with developing an asset management policy and committee. We’re now setting up an Asset Management Centre of Excellence to drive high performance across the organisation and set us on a path to being the best performing local government in Australasia.

Seven new roles have been created in the Asset Management Centre of Excellence, a manager and six principal level roles.  These individuals will be expected to work collaboratively across Auckland Council to continuously improve our broader asset management system. You will provide a hub of expertise linking policy to practice.

Through consistent approaches, tools and guidance, the Asset Management Centre of Excellence will enable better long-term decision making by providing a consistent picture of our assets and the services they provide to our decision makers.  Decisions can then be based on service need and sustainability across portfolios.

With a renewed focus on the importance of asset management, driven enthusiastically by our new Chief Executive and supported by the Executive Leadership Team, this is a rare opportunity to make a significant difference in one of the largest asset owning entities in New Zealand. You will get to shape a new, better asset management system for the benefit of all Aucklanders.

As Principal - Asset Management Planning, you will:

  • work across all of Auckland Council to drive consistent asset management planning practice, aligned with business needs and best practice.
  • enable asset owning departments to easily develop and implement asset management plans which align with corporate strategies and financial plans.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You are an expert in asset management with extensive experience focusing on asset management planning.

We will value your excellent communications skills, including the ability to explain your ideas to non-technical audiences, your enthusiasm for collaborating widely, and your ability to develop a strong network of contacts across multiple organisations.

You have a passion for continuous improvement and a pragmatic approach to enable iterative improvements in a complex organisation.

With a strategic approach to problem solving, you have the natural ability to simplify big and complicated issues.

Local Government and asset management experience are an advantage but not essential.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer
