Auckland Council is seeking for an experienced leader with a passion for operational excellence and animal welfare. We have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Team Leader to join our Licensing and Compliance Department, where you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day running of our Animal Shelter facility.

 

In this pivotal role, you will be a key point of contact for customers and staff by managing all communication channels and collaborating with Field Team Leaders and Shelter Managers to ensure overall operational efficiency. You’ll lead a dedicated team, manage financial transactions, maintain accurate records, oversee facility management and support the wider goals of the Unit. You’ll also be responsible for interpreting and applying key legislation, including the Dog Control Act and Animal Welfare Act, to ensure our operations are compliant and community-focused.

 

This is a dynamic and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You’ll work closely with a passionate team, contribute to cross-unit initiatives, and help shape the future of animal services in our community.

 

 

He kōrero mōu:  About You

 

You are a confident and capable leader with a minimum of five years’ experience in a leadership or management role—ideally within a similar environment such as a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or local government setting.

 

Here’s what you’ll bring to the role:

 

  • Working knowledge of digital systems and office processes.
  • Familiarity with key legislation including the Dog Control Act, Privacy Act, and relevant bylaws.
  • Proven ability to lead a high-performing, diverse team in a fast-paced and sometimes challenging environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to de-escalate difficult situations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Comfortable working in an environment where interaction with animals may occur.

Salary ranges from $85,782 and $100,920 plus KiwiSaver and benefits.
