He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing, the Occupational Health and Injury Manager (permanant and full time opportunity) is Auckland Council's lead specialist for occupational health, injury management and rehabilitation.

You will lead a team of specialists responsible for injury management, occupational health and injury prevention, while providing strategic leadership across the organisation to ensure people are supported to recover well, return to work safely, and remain healthy at work.

This role is pivotal to the successful delivery of Auckland Council's Whanake Ora Hauora Wellbeing Strategy and plays a critical role in maintaining and continuously improving our ACC Accredited Employer Programme (AEP).

The remuneration range for this position is $122,783 to $144,450 per annum, depending on experience and capability. Auckland Council's KiwiSaver contribution is additional to base salary.

You'll have the opportunity to:

• Lead Auckland Council's occupational health and injury management function.
• Influence executive and senior leaders across a large and diverse operating environment.
• Drive injury prevention, rehabilitation and return-to-work outcomes at scale.
• Lead ACC AEP audit readiness and strengthen organisational performance.
• Shape strategy, frameworks and programmes that improve the wellbeing of thousands of kaimahi.
• Build and develop a high-performing team of occupational health and injury management professionals.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You are an experienced people leader and trusted adviser who combines technical expertise with strong strategic influence.

You bring significant experience in occupational health, injury management and rehabilitation, alongside a track record of leading successful programmes within large, complex organisations. You understand how to balance compliance, risk management and wellbeing outcomes while helping leaders make practical, people-focused decisions.

Most importantly, you are motivated by creating environments where people can be healthy, safe and supported to do their best work.

We're looking for someone with:

• Extensive experience in occupational health, injury management, rehabilitation or health-related risk management.
• Proven leadership experience developing high-performing teams.
• Strong knowledge of the ACC Accredited Employer Programme and successful audit delivery.
• Deep understanding of injury management best practice, rehabilitation and return-to-work frameworks.
• Experience influencing senior stakeholders and leading organisational change.
• Excellent analytical, communication and relationship-building skills.
