Museum Assistant 

 

Join the team at the New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa – a place of learning and connection, where Aotearoa’s maritime stories come to life. Sitting at the gateway of Auckland’s vibrant Viaduct Basin on Hobson Wharf, the museum is Auckland's primary CBD-based waterfront visitor attraction.  

We have a permanent part time opportunity to join our Visitor Service Team – 18 hours over Thursday, Friday and Saturday providing frontline customer service to museum visitors and visitors to Auckland.

We are looking for a visitor focussed and conscientious person for this hands-on role which will see the successful candidate welcoming visitors to the museum, selling tickets for museum entry and vessel trips, assisting in the delivery of events, public programs & activities, selling products from our retail shop and  providing information of the surrounding Viaduct and Auckland area to assist visitors with directions to create a warm, engaging, and friendly atmosphere.

The role will also require occasional evening shifts and public holidays.

Your people-centric nature will be highly valued in this role – we are looking for engaging, outgoing individuals that love meeting new people.

You will be sharing your knowledge, proactively looking for opportunities to secure sailing and tour bookings and promoting the sale of our items from our retail shop, making this a dynamic position that will keep you engaged. 

Due to the variety of work, you will be able to apply and fine-tune a mixture of your sales, customer service and story-telling skills.

 

To further guide you we require:

  • Experience working in a customer service ideally in a tourist facing role
  • Excellent communication, with the ability to anticipate visitor needs.
  • A positive, proactive, and collaborative approach to work, with strong attention to detail.
  • A willingness to grow your understanding of te ao Māori, and the confidence to incorporate te reo Māori and tikanga into your work.

The band for this role is Band C with the budgeted salary range from $57,250k to $60,216k depending on skillset and experience.
