He angitūtanga: The opportunity 

Auckland Council has an exciting opportunity for a Marina Crew – Dockmaster to join the team at Westhaven Marina – the largest recreational marina in the Southern Hemisphere.

You’ll be working directly with berth holders, visiting skippers, and crew, helping to ensure a safe, professional, and welcoming environment on the water 24/7. This is not a desk-based role – you’ll be out on the docks, assisting with boats, supporting customers, and representing Westhaven as a premier facility for the boating community.

 

  • This is an on-site position
     

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Be the first point of contact for berth holders and visiting vessels

  • Answer enquiries, manage berth bookings and coordinate arrivals

  • Meet & greet boats, assist with dock (mooring) lines, power and water connections

  • Provide guidance on marina facilities (sewage pump-out, rubbish disposal, fuel, etc.)

  • Monitor the docks to ensure safety, security and compliance with marina rules

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’ll bring strong customer service experience along with a solid background in boating, marine operations, or marina environments. Ideally, you’ll be comfortable working with boats and talking the language of skippers and crew. You might walk up to 7kms per day around the Marina. 
 
We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • Working in a marina, boating club, or marine industry environment
  • Handling dock lines and supporting vessel berthing
  • Resolving customer issues and complaints calmly and professionally
  • Using booking systems and moderate IT skills

 

You will need the flexibility to work a range of shifts. We work on 5 days on, 3 days off roster. Shifts are:

  • 6am-3pm
  • 1-10pm
  • 9.30pm-6.30am

 

Please note:
All Dockmasters are expected to participate in a night shift rotation. While this schedule will be partly based on individual preferences, details will be discussed during the interview with the team leader.
