Auckland Council's Communications & Marketing department is seeking an experienced and strategic marketing leader to join our team as Marketing Strategy Manager.
Reporting to the Head of Marketing & Publicity, this role leads the development and application of Auckland Council's organisation-wide marketing strategy, ensuring our marketing activity aligns with council priorities and delivers meaningful outcomes for Aucklanders. You will play a critical role in translating business objectives into clear marketing direction, partnering with our Marketing Principals to help various senior leaders across council achieve their goals through evidence-based, audience-focused marketing strategies.
Day to day you can expect to:
- Partner with Marketing Principals to create fit-for-purpose marketing strategies that support key initiatives and outcomes
- Build a deep understanding of Auckland's diverse communities and audiences to inform strategic decisions
- Translate research, insights, and data into actionable marketing direction
- Guide channel planning and brief development to improve campaign effectiveness
- Collaborate with internal teams and occasionally agency partners to ensure consistency with Auckland Council's brand and values
- Contribute to the strategic leadership of the Communications and Marketing department

You are a strategic marketer who combines commercial thinking with a passion for delivering positive public outcomes. You understand how to connect organisational priorities with audience needs and have a proven ability to influence stakeholders across complex environments.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience in senior marketing roles within large, complex organisations or agencies
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing marketing strategies
- Strong expertise in audience analysis, market research, and insight-led planning
- Experience working across integrated marketing channels and campaigns
- The ability to influence and build credibility with senior stakeholders
- Proven success leading strategic initiatives and driving organisational alignment
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Sound judgement and political awareness in a complex environment
You will be comfortable navigating competing priorities, bringing clarity to ambiguity, and working collaboratively to achieve outcomes that make a difference for Auckland.
