He angitūtanga: The opportunity


We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager Lifecycle Planning to lead our Lifecycle Planning Team within Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience. In this role you will lead a multidisciplinary group to coordinate and deliver effective stormwater asset management planning, ensuring network risks are understood and managed, and that investment needs are clearly articulated. 


You’ll play a key part in strengthening data integrity, governance, and planning approaches that support resilient, reliable stormwater services for Auckland.


Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Leading and developing a high-performing multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Overseeing the integrity, governance, and maintenance of the stormwater asset register to ensure accurate, high-quality asset data
  • Managing capture and quality control of stormwater as-built data to ensure compliance with Council specifications and fit-for-purpose outcomes
  • Leading the asset planning process, including asset valuation, to maintain a clear understanding of liabilities and risk
  • Owning the development and ongoing review of the Asset Management Plan to clarify operational and capital investment needs
  • Governance and implementation of critical asset frameworks and planned renewals programmes to proactively manage network condition risk

You have a deep expertise in network asset management and a strong understanding of water/stormwater operations and planning. You bring sound judgement, an analytical and innovative mindset, and a practical approach to data governance and quality assurance. Experience as a people leader would be highly regarded. 


You’re confident engaging and influencing across a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, and you’re committed to fostering an inclusive team culture that supports continuous improvement. 


Specifically, we are looking for:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • 15+ years’ experience in network asset management (local government or network utility operator experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding of water network operations and planning, ideally within a complex service delivery environment
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and inspire high-performing technical professionals
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with an innovative mindset and focus on continuous improvement
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across disciplines and organisations
