Tātaki Auckland Unlimited (TAU) is Auckland’s cultural, events and destination agency. It enriches the cultural life and vibrancy of Auckland through events, experiences and taonga (treasures). Auckland Conventions Venues & Events is the division dedicated to organising business events, formal dinners, and private functions within our diverse venue portfolio.
He angitūtanga: The Opportunity
As Manager, Event Planning, you’ll lead a specialised team of Event Planners to deliver exceptional business events. You’ll:
- Champion best-in-class event planning and delivery
- Mentor and develop your team through coaching, training, and performance support
- Drive cross-department collaboration and ensure aligned execution of Convention activities across the broader venue portfolio
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
- Monitor financials, audits, and post-event analysis to drive continuous improvement
- Collaborate with the Manager, Event Planning for Live Experiences to ensure consistency and excellence across all event streams
- Lead strategic projects and new business initiatives with high-quality project management

You’re a confident people leader with a passion for events and a track record of delivering outstanding results. You bring:
- Proven experience in business event planning and team leadership
- Strong communication skills and meticulous attention to detail
- A calm, solutions-focused approach under pressure
- A thorough understanding and proactive approach to event-related risk management
- Experience in conflict resolution and managing multiple priorities
- Knowledge of venue management best practices, liquor licensing laws, and food safety regulations
- A natural ability to build authentic connections and lead through influence and inspiration
