Step into a role where your technical leadership directly shapes outcomes for Tāmaki Makaurau. As our Manager Building Consents Capability, you’ll guide the systems, people, and decision making that underpin safe, high quality building work across the region, lifting capability and strengthening the future of building regulation.

 

Sitting within our Building Consents Capability team, this role leads the strategic development of our technical competence, ensuring our people, processes, and frameworks are equipped to deliver compliant, and consistent consenting services. Your work will span technical assurance, competency frameworks, training, accreditation, and continuous improvement.

 

You’ll champion our Technical Assurance system, oversee key regulatory registers, and ensure we continue to meet Building Consent Authority (BCA) accreditation requirements. As a trusted partner to MBIE, IANZ, and industry forums, you’ll represent Auckland Council with professionalism, credibility, and a solution focused mindset.

 

Day‑to‑day you could expect to work on:

 

  • Overseeing technical assurance, auditing, assessing, and strengthening technical decision making
  • Coaching and developing your team to deliver effective, efficient services
  • Maintaining BCA accreditation through robust systems, processes, and compliance
  • Positively lead the implementation of change initiatives or programmes with the team in accordance with best practice
  • Coordinate input into legislative change submission and consultation exercises

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

This role requires extensive experience in similar technical leadership roles, with a sound understanding of the building regulatory environment, BCA systems, and the complexities of delivering high quality consenting services at scale. You’ll bring a collaborative, people centred leadership style, strong industry credibility, and the ability to influence, guide, and uplift technical capability across a diverse team.

 

You’ll be confident navigating legislation, accreditation requirements, and quality management frameworks, while also being an engaging communicator who can represent Auckland Council in industry forums with professionalism.

 

We will be looking for specific experience with:

 

  • Construction and building regulatory environments, including consenting, certification, and the Building Act
  • Quality management systems and technical assurance frameworks
  • Developing and delivering technical training programmes
  • High level communication including public speaking and stakeholder engagement
  • Project management in complex operational settings
  • BCA accreditation systems and Regulation 18 competency requirements

The remuneration range for this role is $170,000 - $190,000 (based on skills and experience)
