He angitūtanga: The opportunity

An exciting opportunity is now available to join Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau Design Ope’s (Urban Design Unit) to help shape a city that reflects te ao Māori.
As Mātanga Huanga a Māori Urban Designer, you will support the Māori Design Kaupapa Programme, providing specialist advice on Māori urban design principles. Your work will integrate Māori values into key plans, policies, and projects, ensuring culturally rich and meaningful urban outcomes across Tāmaki Makaurau.

Key responsibilities
•    Support the development and implementation of the Māori Design Kaupapa Programme.
•    Provide Māori urban design input into strategies, policies, and projects, including the Auckland Plan 2050 and Auckland Unitary Plan.
•    Contribute to the development of best-practice guidance for the Māori Design Hub within the Auckland Design Manual.
•    Assist in mentoring and supporting kaimahi within the Tāmaki Makaurau Design Ope.
•    Build and maintain relationships with Mana Whenua, Mataawaka, and other key stakeholders.

He kōrero mōu: About you


You have a strong understanding of te ao Māori and a passion for creating meaningful urban spaces that reflect Māori values. With experience in urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, or a related field, you are confident in providing design advice and working collaboratively within a team. Your ability to engage with Mana Whenua and key stakeholders, will be essential in this role.
