Auckland Council's Maungakiekie-Tāmaki local board office has an opportunity for a permanent full-time Local Board Advisor to join their team. This role is based in Panmure and Three Kings with some flexibility to work from home. The successful candidate will report directly to the Local Area Manager.
Local Board Advisors play a pivotal role in representing and serving their communities. They are integral to the decision-making process within Auckland Council's shared governance structure, which encompasses both local boards and the Governing Body.
As an advisor you will provide robust advice across a wide spectrum of local government services and activities, ensuring effective representation and community engagement.
You can expect to:
• Provide high-quality and timely advice to local board members
• Build strong and effective relationships with local board members and other council teams
• Articulate and reflect local boards’ views and priorities in regional strategies, policies and plans.
• Progress, track and resolve issues on behalf of the local board.
• Review and provide advice on the content for local board public meetings and workshops.

To be successful in this role you will be politically savvy and a strategic thinker. This role will see you balance competing demands while working well under pressure. As an advisor, you will provide impeccable policy and strategy advice to support the local board.
At the heart of this role, you will work closely with the board and other council teams to address the issues and aspirations of Tamaki Makaurau.
To do justice to this position, you will need to have an extensive experience in writing, and financial acumen, and be able to demonstrate how you can effectively influence and contribute across small teams.
We are specifically looking for:
• Tertiary qualified with a relevant degree, for example in public policy, public management, humanities, business, finance, or law or equivalent relative experience
• Strong background in governance or a related field
• At least 3 years’ experience in providing policy and strategy advice
