Auckland Council Libraries is looking for a passionate and creative Librarian – Programmes & Events to join our team at Pt Chevalier Library (flexibility to work across Albert-Eden & Puketāpapa local board areas) on a Permanent Full-time basis (40 hours, Monday–Friday + Saturdays as required). This is an exciting opportunity to lead the design and delivery of engaging programmes and events that connect communities, inspire learning and reflect the diverse needs of Tāmaki Makaurau.

 

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

In this role, you will lead the development, delivery and promotion of community programmes and events, working closely with local communities, partners and stakeholders.

You will:

•    Design and deliver innovative programmes and events aligned to community needs and local board outcomes
•    Build strong relationships with community organisations, providers and council teams to co-design and deliver impactful initiatives
•    Engage communities through outreach activities, increasing participation and access to library services
•    Support and promote children’s and youth programmes, fostering literacy, creativity and connection
•    Assist with day-to-day library operations and provide exceptional customer service
•    Support promotion of programmes through social media, displays and community channels 
•    Contribute to projects and network-wide initiatives

This is a varied and people-focused role where no two days are the same — perfect for someone who enjoys balancing programme delivery, community engagement and team collaboration.

You’re creative, community-minded and love bringing ideas to life through programmes and events.

You’ll bring:

•    Experience designing and delivering programmes, events or community initiatives
•    Strong relationship-building skills and confidence engaging with diverse communities
•    A customer-first mindset, with the ability to support people with literacy, digital skills and access to services 
•    Confidence using technology and digital tools
•    Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
•    A collaborative approach and willingness to support your team

You’ll also have:

•    A recognised library qualification (or working towards one)
•    LIANZA professional registration (preferred)
•    Around 2–3+ years’ experience in libraries or a related field
•    An understanding of te ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and commitment to embedding this in your work

We are expecting to appoint the successful applicant at a salary of between $76,000 to 89,000 per annum, depending upon experience.
