He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Here at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in achieving our goal of getting Auckland to be the most active city in the world. And right now, we’re looking for part-time Learn to Swim Instructors to join our Pool and Leisure Centre teams across Auckland to help achieve that goal!

Based at Tepid Baths, this is a fantastic job where you can gain a formal qualification teaching people the basic principles of how to swim, maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitors - we'll provide the training you need to succeed in the role.

We are currently looking for a Learn to Swim Instructor that focuses on working with babies and toddlers.

We would love to hear from those who can work at least 6 hours per week and eager to learn. All training is provided. Please note that 1 weekday after-school shift and 1 weekend morning shift are required.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You are a great swimmer and instructor, have a love of water, have exceptional customer service skills, be at least 16 years of age, and can communicate well with members of the public. Just a passion to work with our diverse community while also making a difference.

If you do have a recognised swim teacher qualification or previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that would be fantastic! However, we will provide full, comprehensive training. If you do not have a AUSTSWIM qualification, you will be required to attend the following training dates below and Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm:

  • 30th September- 4th October & 7th October - 11th October.

You must also be willing to complete First Aid training.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

As a Learn to Swim Instructor, you’ll have free access to our facilities, hours that provide work-life balance, and above all else, you will be part of a fun and supportive team. You will also have the satisfaction of knowing the work you do is important and impactful, especially the pride and joy you will get from watching someone gain the confidence that comes from learning how to swim.

We strongly encourage upskilling and training. Once you are hired, you will have the opportunity to pick up extra hours in a variety of roles, such as Lifeguard, Customer Service Rep, Recreation Assistant and more.

We are committed in promoting a workplace that respects the contributions of everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, age, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, or background. Our goal is to pursue an inclusive environment where every individual is appreciated and empowered to express themselves at work. We welcome all applications, help us get 'More Aucklanders more active, more often'!"
