Auckland’s coast, rivers, streams, lakes and groundwater are an integral part of what Aucklanders value in our region. Play a pivotal role in helping sustainably manage our water resources for future generations!

 

We have a fixed term opportunity until September 2026 for a Lead Water Scientist to join our Environmental Evaluation and Monitoring Unit.  Inspire and guide our applied water scientists working towards improved water outcomes for Tāmaki Makaurau.  Provide scientific leadership across the council group, inputting into major strategic, policy and operational programmes and projects. 

 

Ensure research, advice and reporting delivered by the unit is of the highest quality, and embed innovation and excellence in all that you do. 

 

This is a great opportunity for a highly experienced water scientist to ensure that decisions on the management of water resources in Tāmaki Makaurau are based on robust evidence.


 

He kōrero mōu: About you
 
You have ideally completed a PhD or have equivalent experience in water resource management, specifically relating to water quality.  

 

Your skills and experience include:

  • exceptional collaboration skills
  • ability to provide technical leadership and mentoring 
  • data analysis, scientific reporting and communication 
  • familiarity with New Zealand's regulatory framework for water management within a local government context

 

We will also value your extensive network of contacts in water science.
