He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Chief Sustainability Office has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Corporate Sustainability Advisor to join our high calibre and influential team.

You will be Auckland Council’s lead on ensuring sustainability thinking sits at the heart of our decision-making activities. You will help the organisation shape its processes, policies and programmes across a range of social, cultural, economic and environmental dimensions to ensure we walk-the-talk on our sustainability and climate commitments. Using your analytical, advisory and influencing skills, you will help mainstream sustainability as business as usual across the organisation on both a broad and tangible scale. You will play a key role in the ongoing development and delivery of Auckland Council’s strategic response to the climate crisis: Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland’s Climate Plan.

This is a dynamic and varied role where you will have the opportunity to work across multiple stakeholders and areas including emissions reduction, climate risk disclosure, low impact buildings and places, alternative finance mechanisms, sustainable procurement, urban development, green infrastructure and the regenerative economy to name a few.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You will bring your knowledge of emerging national and international best practice and trends in corporate sustainability strategy, leverage your broad sustainability networks and proactively identify sustainability issues and opportunities for transformative change.

A strong verbal and written communicator, influencer and relationship builder, you will bring prior technical experience in sustainability strategy, climate change and change management or related fields.

Naturally you will have the ability to manage high-volume and complex projects and work flows with an appreciation of the big picture and an eye for detail.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

Auckland is a rapidly growing region. This growth brings huge opportunity, but also many challenges to ensure that growth is sustainable and resilient to the impacts of a changing climate. In response to these challenges and opportunities, the region has established a vision of Auckland for the future through the Auckland Plan and set bold aspirations for climate action, through Te Tāruke-ā-Tāwhiri: Auckland’s Climate Plan, including halving regional emissions by 2030 and reaching net zero emissions by 2050. Auckland is also an active member of key leadership networks such as the global C40 Cities Leadership Group and New Zealand’s Climate Leaders Coalition. Ensuring the region is strategically aligned to deliver on these sustainability commitments is the key focus for the Chief Sustainability Office.

If you are passionate about creating a sustainable and resilient Auckland that works for people and the planet and have the experience and skills to back your passion, then we'd love to hear from you.  Join us and leave your legacy on Auckland!   Feel free to request a copy of the position description from Shar Mahon on +64-27-769-1880 or shar.mahon@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
