He angitūtanga: The opportunity
The primary purpose of this role is to provide architectural leadership and leverage industry expertise within the context of the resource consent process. The position entails advising on a diverse range of development proposals, with a specific emphasis on medium and high-density housing, master planning, infill development scenarios, and complex or strategically important projects.
As a lead within the Plans and Places department, you will be expected to offer expert architectural design advice for resource consent applications, collaborate with colleagues to provide architectural input into statutory plans and policy matters and contribute to content development on the Auckland Design Manual. The role also encompasses representing the council at various forums and collaborating with key stakeholders to enhance the quality of the built environment in Tāmaki Makaurau.

He kōrero mōu: About you
Candidates for this role should possess a bachelor's degree in architecture, as well as membership in a relevant professional organisation, preferably the New Zealand Institute of Architects. The role requires substantial experience, with at least 12 years in the field and a minimum of 7 years at a senior technical leadership level, with a recent focus on medium and high-density housing, master planning, and mixed-use developments.
An in-depth understanding of local government legislation, the New Zealand Building Code, and professional practice requirements is crucial. Strong communication skills, industry knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to achieving high-quality built environment outcomes for Tāmaki Makaurau are essential for success in this role.
