Auckland Council’s Insights team has an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time Insights Programme Lead to join the team. This role is based in the city centre, with flexibility to work from home or a local Council hub.
Reporting to the Insights Manager, you’ll lead the design and delivery of a strategic research programme that ensures the voice of Aucklanders is at the centre of council decision-making. From shaping ad hoc studies to managing longitudinal research, you’ll apply robust, evidence-based methodologies to uncover what Aucklanders think, feel and do — and why it matters.
This role combines technical leadership with strategic impact. You’ll work across a diverse portfolio — including public opinion, programme evaluation and market research— to produce actionable insights that influence decisions across the organisation.
In this role, you can expect to:
• Lead strategic research and evaluation by delivering integrated insights that bring clarity to complex issues and support evidence-based planning.
• Be across – and make use of - existing data and insights to inform the organisation about what Aucklanders have previously told us
• Build insights capability by contributing to the organisation-wide community of practice, sharing leading-edge methods and building research maturity.
• Facilitate workshops and support stakeholders to understand & embed insights into their planning & decision making
He kōrero mōu: About you
We’re looking for someone with strong quantitative research expertise and hands-on experience from discovery with business partners, through to survey design and delivering presentations and reports. You’ll bring knowledge of methods, sampling strategies, and best practices for story telling with data.
Your ability to present complex data in a clear, actionable way will help teams across the organisation make informed, evidence-based decisions.
You’ll be a confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, able to build trusted relationships across diverse teams. Self-motivated and detail-oriented, you’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment where managing multiple projects and priorities is the norm. Most importantly, you’ll bring a passion for public service and a genuine commitment to amplifying the voice of Aucklanders.
We’re particularly interested in candidates with:
• Significant experience in applied market or social research—ideally within a public sector or local government context
• Proficiency with survey tools like Qualtrics, and familiarity with SPSS or similar for data analysis
• Experience managing large-scale research projects
