Panuku Development Auckland (Panuku) requires a new Independent Director with general governance experience to join the board in 2021.

Panuku is an urban regeneration and property development agent that was established in September 2015. With its four core activities of development, placemaking, property management and acquisitions & disposals, Panuku is actively involved throughout the property lifecycle and acts on behalf of the Council and its CCOs.

The core strategic activities of the organisation are:
-    To lead and catalyse urban redevelopment in priority locations
-    To holistically create value from Council assets assigned to Panuku.
-    To demonstrate business leadership opportunities to build its brand and deliver superior strategic outcomes.
These are achieved through a mix of projects and programmes that transform communities through long-term regeneration; and which create partnerships across agencies, with iwi and the private sector, to deliver quality housing, urban centres and public spaces.

Particular skills and competencies sought:

Priorities

  • Broad governance experience, garnering respect in the market.
  • Strong understanding and experience of working with a range of stakeholders, including local and central government and iwi.
  • Relevant networks across these stakeholder groups, as well as among the private sector.
  • Significant commercial expertise, with experience of applying a commercial mindset to large-scale projects and partnerships.
  • Experienced in governance organisations in times of change and uncertainty.
  • Experienced in driving cultural change through complex organisations.

Common Priorities Across the Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs)

  • Uphold the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, readiness to promote improved outcomes for Māori and knowledge of Te Ao Māori and established Māori networks.
  • Demonstrate appropriate accountability and responsiveness to the Governing Body and the public and a commitment to public sector ethos.
  • Demonstrate financial accountability with close review of current and proposed activities to deliver value for money.
  • Commitment to integrate council’s climate action plans into the strategies and operations of the CCOs.
  • Driving appropriate leadership and cultural response to deliver the required outcomes (and/or deliver on targets as identified).
  • Commitment to collaborate across the CCO family.
  • Demonstrate inclusive and adaptive leadership to harness the benefits of diversity.

Useful to Have

  • Knowledge of urban regeneration/redevelopment with an awareness of environmental considerations and associated impacts.
