Healthy Waters Specialist - Catchment Planning

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

An opportunity has become available for a Healthy Waters Specialist – Catchment Planning to play a key role in shaping Auckland’s stormwater future. Working within the Catchment Planning team, this role contributes to the development and prioritisation of stormwater programmes that support growth, asset renewal and improved environmental outcomes. 

You’ll be involved early in the project lifecycle, helping to ensure a strong, well planned pipeline of stormwater projects that areaffordable, buildable and aligned with council priorities. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys collaboration, strategic thinking and seeing good planning translate into real-world outcomes.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

• Preparing and reviewing stormwater catchment and management plans
• Prioritising programmes of work aligned to council strategies and gateways
• Managing allocated catchment planning projects end to end
• Working closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop solutions
• Coordinating stakeholder engagement, consultation and land access activities
• Managing professional service contracts and contributing to procurement

He kōrero mōu: About you 

You bring a strong background in stormwater or three waters infrastructure, with experience working across planning, project delivery and stakeholder engagement. Comfortable operating in a complex local government environment, you’re able to balance technical requirements with broader organisational priorities. 

You build trusted relationships, communicate clearly, and take pride in delivering well-considered, practical outcomes. You also value health and safety, continuous improvement, and are open to growing your confidence in te ao Māori and tikanga in the workplace.

Specifically, we are looking for:

• A tertiary qualification in engineering or a related discipline
• 5+ years’ experience in three waters infrastructure or stormwater planning
• Proven experience managing infrastructure or planning projects
• Strong stakeholder engagement and consultation capability
• Experience preparing technical reports and business case inputs
• Knowledge of stormwater systems, sustainable urban design and hydrology
