Join our high-performing Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience department at Auckland Council as a Healthy Waters Specialist in our Stormwater Quality Team. 


Reporting to the Manager Stormwater Quality, you will play a crucial role in understanding and improving the impact of stormwater quality receiving environments across Tāmaki Makaurau. Your expertise will contribute to policy, strategy, planning, regulatory, and infrastructure decisions, ensuring the health of our coastal and freshwater environments.


Day-to-day you could expect to:

  • Plan and lead the generation of data required for freshwater and coastal water quality models.
  • Coordinate the assessment of data suitability for continuous improvement of water quality models.
  • Support data generation to evaluate long-term costs and benefits of stormwater quality mitigation strategies.
  • Provide or coordinate the provision of literature and evidence for various documents and processes.
  • Plan and lead the generation of information for urban water quality management decisions.
  • Provide insights into emerging contaminants in the stormwater network and their impacts.
  • Develop content and collateral for engagement activities, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • Support the continuous improvement of science, systems, tools, and methodologies related to stormwater quality.

You are a dedicated professional with a passion for environmental science and water quality. You excel in technical leadership, strategic judgment, and effective communication. 


Your collaborative nature and initiative drive you to deliver high-quality results and build positive relationships with stakeholders.


We will be looking for the following specific qualifications and experience:

  • Minimum BSc. in Water Quality, Limnology, Environmental Geochemistry, or Environmental Science.
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience in water quality science.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing technical reports.
  • Proven project coordination or project management skills.
  • Experience working with stakeholders or the public in a professional capacity.
