He angitūtanga: The opportunity

 

Transport policy is critical to enabling improved transport outcomes and supporting sustainable growth, spatial development, and infrastructure investment across the region.

 

As Head of Transport Policy, you'll lead a high-performing team responsible for developing Auckland's transport policy, network planning and long-term transport strategies. Working at the intersection of transport, growth, infrastructure and spatial planning, you'll ensure transport priorities are integrated with the region's future development and investment decisions.

 

You'll build strong partnerships across Auckland Council, council-controlled organisations, central government and key industry stakeholders to influence policy, investment and regulatory settings. The role provides trusted strategic advice to senior leaders and elected members, guiding more than $40 billion of transport infrastructure investment through the development and implementation of Auckland's 30-year integrated transport strategy and the Regional Land Transport Programme, helping deliver a connected, resilient and sustainable future for Auckland.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

You'll be a highly regarded senior leader with significant experience leading complex policy, planning, infrastructure or regulatory functions within local government, central government or similarly complex environments. You'll have a proven ability to provide strategic advice on high-profile and politically sensitive matters, influencing executive leaders, elected members and governance bodies to support informed decision-making.

 

You will bring extensive experience shaping long-term policy, planning and investment frameworks, together with the ability to build strong partnerships across government, Council-Controlled Organisations, iwi, Māori and other key stakeholders. With sound political judgement, a collaborative leadership style and a deep understanding of transport policy and integrated planning, you'll be adept at navigating complexity, influencing across organisational boundaries and delivering outcomes that support Auckland's long-term growth and strategic priorities.
