He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) is the region’s economic growth agency and an Auckland Council-controlled organisation. Our programmes help make Auckland a desirable place to live, work, visit, invest and do business. We love what we do, and we love making a difference!

Auckland has a rich major events heritage, having successfully hosted high-profile international events over the past two decades that have delivered significant social, economic and legacy benefits. Tāmaki Makaurau-Auckland has become internationally recognised as a leading events city and is taking the next step in its events evolution with the mega year of 2021 on the horizon. Starting with the 36th America’s Cup and culminating with APEC21 Leaders Week, the year will see major international and regional events being staged here, focusing global attention on the city. We have an exciting opportunity for a world-class major events talent to help lead our journey to 2021 and beyond.

You’ll play a pivotal role in championing, attracting, guiding Council’s investment in, and delivering major events in Auckland. Auckland’s Major Events Strategy is set, the team is empowered and poised, and we need you to continue the momentum as we work with partners to bring the excitement, culture, entertainment and economic value events deliver for Auckland.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’re an exceptional people leader with demonstrated success in leading high performing teams that are focussed on meeting performance targets. You understand how to deliver a quality programme while demonstrating prudence in a publicly funded environment. You have a high level of commercial acumen and can draw on both public and private sector experience to navigate the complexities of major event investment and delivery in Auckland. You’ll have strong negotiation skills and be comfortable in the highly competitive international events market. You bring exceptional skills in managing large scale events including governance, stakeholder management, partnering, community engagement and compliance. Your energy and genuine passion for major events will allow you to confidently lead the strategic development, and attraction and delivery of key anchor events for the region. Your personal resilience, positivity and ability to maintain composure under pressure and scrutiny will be essential to success.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

We’ll provide a platform for you to maximise opportunities to help tell the ‘Auckland story’ through our events activities. You’ll be part of a dynamic high-performing ATEED leadership team. This role is a highly visible one, as you contribute strongly to growing Auckland's global reputation as a leading major events destination.
