Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki strengthens and enriches our community through art and ideas. As a bi-cultural organisation we make a major contribution to the cultural life of Auckland and Aotearoa New Zealand by collaborating with communities to offer inspiring art experiences that engage and challenge diverse audiences.  The Gallery's vision is to be the home of art for Auckland, its people and visitors from its internationally recognised award-winning facility.  Established in 1888, the Gallery holds a pre-eminent collection of New Zealand art and a significant collection of international art presented alongside a dynamic programme of temporary exhibitions, public engagement and outreach programmes.

As the Head of Advancement and Sponsorship, you will work closely with the Director and the Gallery’s newly established Advisory Committee whose role is to help shape the vision for the Gallery and to actively support the long-term sustainable fundraising endeavours. There is opportunity for you to build on and drive transformational growth and a full review and analysis of the Gallery’s fundraising structure and financial performance has informed the development of the fundraising strategy. A strategy that has been designed to adapt and be flexible in response to the evolving future vision for the Gallery as a leading visual arts institution enriching the lives of the citizens of Auckland and Aotearoa and beyond.

The Advancement and Sponsorship portfolio contributes significantly to the strategic direction and management of the Galley in three ways: by  enhancing the Gallery’s national and international profile and reputation; through maximising and leveraging partnerships with individuals, funding agencies and corporate entities, and by increasing and growing capacity for revenue generation, philanthropic support and membership. 


There is a solid platform to enable future growth and increased revenue generation across all of the areas of fundraising: corporate sponsorship, membership, grants and trusts, bequests and the philanthropic supporter groups. Your focus in this critical role going forward is to ensure there is a unified and clear donor journey and that the systems and processes are in place to enable and maintain sustainable growth.

With a strong marketplace reputation and you will be well connected and able to activate relevant strategic networks in support of the Gallery. With outstanding people leadership abilities, you will have a high-level strategic management capability and exceptional relationship management skills.


A natural collaborator, you will have excellent interpersonal and communication with the ability to effectively liaise, influence and negotiate with all levels. Politically savvy with high EQ and resilience, you will have demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the ability to negotiate on behalf of Auckland Art Gallery.

You will have a strong track record in delivery of business development growth targets and a deep understanding of current developments in revenue generation, fundraising and sponsorship within the cultural sector.
