He angitūtanga: The opportunity
The Data Services department plays a critical role in shaping how Auckland Council manages, protects, and uses data as a strategic asset. We lead the implementation of the organisation’s Data Governance Framework, ensuring that policies, standards, and best‑practice processes are embedded across the council. Our work supports high-quality, trusted data; effective records and archives management; and the tools, education, and guidance that enable kaimahi (staff) to use data confidently and responsibly. From data quality and cataloguing to conservation, digitisation, and advisory support, we help the organisation get the most value from its data while meeting legislative and policy obligations. You’ll work in a supportive environment where learning, collaboration, and shared problem-solving are core to how we operate
Your Rotations
Your tasks may include:
- Building data models, analysing trends, and identifying patterns to support informed business decisions.
- Cleaning, transforming, and integrating data from various sources to ensure accuracy and usability.
- Conducting data analysis and producing insightful reports.
- Automating reporting processes to enhance efficiency and support BI objectives.
- Assisting with the migration of reports into Power BI.

- Implementing data quality checks to maintain high standards of data integrity.
- Managing metadata and data lineage to improve transparency and traceability.
- Collaborating with our Records & Archives team to support effective information management.
