Our Building Consents team plays a vital role in creating safe, sustainable, and compliant buildings across Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. We work at the heart of the development process, ensuring that what gets built in our city supports the wellbeing, safety, and resilience of our communities, now and into the future.
 
As a Building Consents Graduate, you’ll be part of a team committed to delivering a seamless, customer centred service that upholds the highest standards of quality and compliance. You’ll contribute directly to shaping Auckland’s built environment and gain the foundational skills needed for a meaningful and long term career in the building sector..

Throughout the programme, you’ll receive ongoing support, guidance, and supervision. You’ll never be expected to navigate this journey alone. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals who will coach you, review your work, and help you develop confidence and capability in a structured and supported environment

Your Rotations

First Year

You’ll build your technical foundation by rotating through:

• Lodgement & Processing Teams
  Work with experts who assess building consent designs against the Building Code. You’ll learn how consent applications are assessed and granted approval. ,
• Inspections Team
  Head out on site and see building work come to life. You’ll learn how inspections are performed and experience the built journey from breaking ground and foundations through to final checks.
• Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) Team
  Support the final certification stage by reviewing documentation, verifying completed work, and ensuring each project meets all regulatory requirements.

Second Year

In year two, you’ll expand your capability through deeper engagement and specialist exposure:

• Advanced Processing and Inspections
  Build on your first‑year experience by revisiting processing and inspections with greater responsibility and technical depth. You’ll also gain exposure to more complex consent scenarios, for example, reclad consents, historic consents or some commercial aspects.
• Capability Team
  See behind the scenes of quality assurance through involvement in auditing, technical reviews, and training development - the engine room of our continuous improvement.

At the end of the programme, you’ll move into a final rotation aligned with your interests and future career direction.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’re a motivated graduate who’s excited about contributing to the future of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s built environment. You’re curious, eager to learn, and ready to develop a strong technical foundation in the building sector.

You bring sharp attention to detail, strong customer service skills, and a willingness to take initiative. You enjoy working independently but are equally comfortable asking questions and seeking guidance when you need it.

We welcome applications from graduates in the following disciplines: 

• Building Surveying
• Construction Management
• Architecture, Architectural drafting or technology
• Building Science
• Quantity Surveying
• Engineering (Civil, Construction, Architectural)

All qualifications held must meet the regulation requirements listed here: Regulation 18 – Technical qualifications  

You must have:

• A minimum of a relevant Bachelor’s degree in specified areas that are aligned with Regulation 18 – Technical qualifications  
• Eligibility to work in Aotearoa New Zealand for more than 4 years without sponsorship
• Have a valid NZ-restricted driver’s license with the ability to obtain a full licence by February 2027

This role has a remuneration of $65,000

Our employer KiwiSaver contribution is additional to the base salary offered.
