Reporting to the Team Leader of Governance Advisors, you will be part of the Democracy and Engagement Department.
The Governance Advisor team underpins effective democratic decision-making of Auckland Council by being specialists in democratic processes, legislative requirements and take a strategic overview of priorities and key objectives within individual portfolios.
The team also works closely with the Advisory Panels and the Principal Advisor Panels. These roles will have a focus on the Advisory Panels.
- Producing meeting documentation for stakeholders and the public to ensure information is available within required timeframes
- Advising elected appointed members, staff on meeting processes, key priorities, and legislative requirements
- Specialists point of contact for stakeholders across the council group and the public
- Forming collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
- Assisting the Principal Advisor Panels with cross-panel work

- Confident and can work with elected and appointed representatives, senior management and representatives from Tamaki Makaurau’s diverse communities
- Have a strong desire to help Aucklanders shape their city
- is a strong team player who has well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Thinks on their feet while maintaining political acumen and awareness
- Able to juggle a large workload while exhibiting professionalism and diplomacy
- Ability to work under pressure, accurately and successfully on several tasks simultaneously and prioritise tasks accordingly
- Strong results and a delivery focus
- Experience with the Infocouncil system which is an essential part of this role
- Able to work flexible hours – our advisory panels meet mostly early evenings
- NZ Restricted drivers licence, as some driving will be required
