This is your opportunity to be at the forefront of creating robust and resilient geotechnical solutions, undertaking geotechnical assessments and improving geotechnical standards.
Auckland Council’s Engineering, Assets and Technical Advisory department has an opportunity for a capable Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical team. You will collaborate with various council departments, including Planning and Resource Consents, Building Consents, Licensing and Compliance, Resilience and Insurance, Park and Community Facilities and Healthy Waters to improve information sharing and service delivery. You will establish and maintain relationships with key service providers across the council family to provide technical support and advice.
You could expect to work on:
- supporting the assessment of consents by providing geotechnical engineering advice within required timeframes
- providing professional assessments on compliance matters to enable effective decision-making, and working collaboratively with stakeholders for positive outcomes
- recording natural hazards and assisting imposing or uplifting Section 73 hazard notices
- undertaking geotechnical engineering design reviews of externally provided designs if/where required before tender
- assisting with “one off” emergency responses/recovery for geotechnical events such as landslides as required, including provision of advice on remediation measures
- applying risk management policies and practices

You are a motivated geotechnical professional with sound technical capability, practical engineering judgement, and a collaborative approach. You enjoy solving engineering challenges and working with a range of stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes.
You bring experience from consulting, local government, or a similar environment and are comfortable providing advice on complex engineering and natural hazard matters.
We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:
- a Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline
- experience in geotechnical investigations, site assessments, design support, or engineering advisory services, preferably within New Zealand
- a sound understanding of geotechnical engineering principles relating to land development, infrastructure, and buildings
- working knowledge of relevant New Zealand legislation, engineering standards, and industry practice
- strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- a collaborative approach and a willingness to learn from experienced specialists while contributing to a high-performing team
- CPEng status (or the ability to obtain it) would be highly desirable

This role has a remuneration range of $110,000 - $120,000
Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
