He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s on-site CBD café is looking for a passionate and reliable Chef to join our team on a 12-month fixed term basis.

Based in the heart of Auckland City, our busy staff café and canteen supports daily service, meetings, functions and a range of in-house events. You’ll be part of a team of 8 chefs and a wider catering team who take pride in delivering high quality, fresh and nutritious food.

This role offers great work-life balance, with shifts scheduled between 5:00am – 2:30pm (e.g. 5:00am – 1:30pm or 6:00am – 2:30pm), depending on business needs. Occasional weekend work may be required for functions (paid at overtime rates). Please note, this role does not include shift allowances.

Alongside food preparation and service, you’ll take ownership of your section, helping to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, including tasks such as ordering and maintaining Food Control Plan documentation.

You’re a capable and motivated chef who enjoys working in a fast-paced café environment and takes pride in your work.

You will bring:
• At least 2 years’ experience in a commercial kitchen
• A Full or Restricted Driver’s Licence
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Good organisation and time management
• The ability to work both collaboratively and independently
• A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a sense of ownership and accountability
• Flexibility and adaptability to support changing daily demands

Larder or baking experience is a bonus, but not essential.

The salary for this role sits within Band D, ranging from $57,000 to $65,000 per annum, depending on experience, with KiwiSaver contributions additional.
