He angitūtanga: The opportunity
 
The Hauraki Gulf Forum is an independent statutory board, established under the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park Act 2000. Its 21 members represent the tangata whenua of the Hauraki Gulf and its islands, local government of the Auckland and Waikato regions, and central government Ministers.   

 

Most well-known for its public State of the Gulf reports and advocacy work, the Forum works to resolve the challenges facing the Marine Park, promote integrated management of the Gulf, and recognise the special relationship that tangata whenua have with Tīkapa Moana, Te Moananui-ā-Toi. 

 

The Forum works collaboratively with a large range of stakeholders – government, business, NGOs, researchers, universities, and community organisations – to lead, achieve and support better outcomes for the Gulf.
 
As the Executive Officer for the Forum, you will be responsible for delivering and managing all aspects of the Forum’s work. You will serve as the chief advisor to the Forum Co-Chairs and its Members. You will hold and strengthen relationships with a diverse and vibrant stakeholder group to enable the Forum to achieve its goals.

 

This is a unique opportunity offering leadership, independence and a high degree of influence over one of the most pressing environmental challenges facing Aotearoa New Zealand.   

 
 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

We are looking for a leader who has experience operating at a high level in government.  You are able to demonstrate your understanding of how to work with local and central government, iwi and hapū. 

 

You are collaborative, innovative and passionate about delivering environmental outcomes that will leave the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park, Tīkapa Moana, Te Moananui-ā-Toi a better place. You’re an effective communicator and a problem-solver, with strong interpersonal and written skills. 
 
Holding a relevant tertiary or other qualification, you’ll have a proven track record of delivering collaborative projects in a political environment, and are comfortable with a high degree of political complexity. 

 

An understanding of te ao Māori is important.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping and securing a healthier future and restoring the mauri of the Hauraki Gulf. Auckland Council is the Administering Authority for the Forum under the Marine Park Act, which is why the position is based at council. The position also has a broader leadership role within council.
