He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Our Environmental Services department is dedicated to delivering impactful programmes and services that empower Aucklanders to enhance our natural environment and take meaningful climate action for the benefit of current and future generations. The department’s main objectives are to:
- support Māori to exercise tino rangatiratanga and kaitiakitanga,
- protect and restore Auckland’s natural environment, and
- empower Aucklanders to become environmental stewards and take proactive climate action.
You can expect to be involved in a range of projects contributing to different team’s key areas such as:
- Leading the delivery of region-wide biodiversity protection and restoration activities.
- Delivering projects that support community resilience to the impacts of climate change.
- Providing advice and support for community-led ecosystem restoration.
- Providing natural environment and sustainability advice for the development of local board plans and projects
- Delivering effective and strategic conservation projects, working with iwi mana whenua, local communities, council partners and other agencies such as Department of Conservation.

To be eligible to apply, you must have the following:
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand for more than 3 years without sponsorship
- Minimum of a relevant Bachelor’s degree completed January 2024 – January 2026
- A valid New Zealand restricted driver’s license is preferred as travel will be required.
