Auckland Council’s Environmental Health - Noise team has an opportunity for an Enforcement Officer | Noise to help protect and enhance the wellbeing of our communities. Reporting to the Team Leader – Environmental Health -Noise, this role plays a key part in promoting public health, reducing harm, and supporting voluntary compliance across Tāmaki Makaurau.
You’ll be involved in investigating and resolving noise complaints, responding to noise enquiries and supporting noise contract management, while helping Aucklanders understand what good compliance looks like. This is a role where your judgement, communication skills, and commitment to fair, evidence-based decision making will make a real difference.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Responding to noise complaints and statutory nuisance issues, ensuring timely, accurate investigations.
- Monitoring noise contractor performance against contract requirements and regularly reporting on performance against these requirements.
- Analysing trends in noise complaints and finding opportunities for improvement.
- Respond to enquiries regarding noise.
- Carrying out enforcement functions under the noise provisions of the Resource Management Act, Natural and Built Environment Act, Unitary Plan; the Local Government Act 2002 and Auckland Council Bylaws.
- Participating in proactive initiatives that reduce risk and improve public health outcomes.
- Undertaking out-of-hours monitoring and participating in on-call duties.
- Preparing evidence, supporting legal processes, and ensuring cost recovery where required.
- Working collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to solve complex issues.

This role requires experience in similar environmental health or regulatory roles, with a sound understanding of legislation, compliance frameworks, and noise-related enforcement. You’ll bring a calm, solutions-focused approach to challenging situations and be confident engaging with people from all walks of life. We will be looking for specific experience with:
- Applying relevant legislation, regulations, bylaws, and codes of practice.
- Investigating complex issues, gathering evidence, and resolving escalated matters.
- Working with culturally diverse communities in delivering high quality customer service with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in the initiation and management of legal action including taking prosecutions through to the Courts and giving evidence.
- Experience in environmental health or a regulatory environment.
- A tertiary qualification in Environmental Health (BSc/MSc) or equivalent.
- Eligibility to be warranted as an enforcement officer under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, PPT and Outlook
A current and relevant NZ Driver’s licence is required due to the nature of the role and the class of vehicle driven.

The remuneration range for this role is $88,528 - $93,000 per annum (based on skills and experience)
Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
