Due to internal movement, we are looking for an Ecologist to join our team. This is your opportunity to be at the forefront of helping achieve a flourishing and protected natural environment for Auckland!
Purpose of the Job
Our team provide expert ecological and geological features advice and support across council including resource consents, policy, parks management, and biosecurity and biodiversity programmes. We also manage our own projects, to ensure the protection and restoration of indigenous ecosystems, habitats, species, and outstanding natural features on public and private land.
As an Ecologist, you will provide specialist ecological advice to protect and restore indigenous biodiversity (including ecosystems, habitats, and threatened species) and outstanding natural features in Auckland. This includes offering best practice advice and technical expertise for operational programmes, policy development, and regulatory and non-regulatory processes. This role will mainly be based in our city office, but may require some travel to sites.

- This is a Fixed Term Full Time position – ending 25th August 2025.
- This position is labelled a Safety Sensitive role - a Drug and Alcohol test will be conducted prior to offer.

We will look to you to provide expert advice and champion best practice, with a strong customer focus, to decision-makers and operational programmes as well as delivering your own projects. You are collaborative, innovative, and passionate about delivering outcomes for Auckland’s natural environment.
You will need:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in ecology or similar field (Master's degree preferred).
- A full NZ drivers licence.
- 5 years work experience in terrestrial ecology and/or biodiversity conservation.
- Understanding of RMA statutory processes particularly reviewing and/or writing effects assessments.
- Excellent knowledge of NZ terrestrial and/or wetland ecology.
Experience working as an expert undertaking and reviewing of ecological survey and effects assessments within the Resource Management Act will be particularly valued.
