Duty Operations Manager - Conservation Learning
Auckland Zoo is a community-serving cultural organisation with a mission to ‘bring people together to build a future for wildlife’. Through science, learning & training, and strengthening our relationship with Te Ao Māori, we strive for excellence in animal care & welfare, conserve wildlife in the wild and nurture a lifelong connection with nature to enhance the well-being of our communities.
We are looking for a Duty Operations Manager - Conservation Learning to join the Conservation Advocacy and Engagement Department.
This multifaceted role reports to the Conservation Learning and Community Engagement Manager and has 7 Conservation Learning Facilitators/Conservation Learning Facilitators (Kaupapa Māori) direct reports.
The successful candidate will play a key role in leading the delivery, growth, and strategic direction of Auckland Zoo’s conservation learning programmes. This includes overseeing the day-to-day operations of onsite, online, and outreach learning initiatives, while supporting broader advocacy and engagement goals. The role requires a strong focus on delivering both mission and financial outcomes, team leadership, and cross-team collaboration.

The role is 40 hours per week; however, this role requires flexible working, including some evening and weekend work, which may include public holidays as required to manage and deliver the role’s portfolio.

It is essential that you have:
- A teaching qualification or equivalent proven teaching or training experience
- A university degree in natural or social science or another relevant field
In addition, we are looking for candidates with the following attributes:
- More than 2 years of teaching or training experience in either a formal or informal setting
- Highly motivated and enjoy managing a team of people with diverse projects and programmes
- Knowledge, understanding and experience of conservation education and the relevant New Zealand curricula in developing, delivering and evaluating to diverse audiences and from early childhood to tertiary levels
- Experience in people and operational management
- Experience delivering on financial and mission-driven KPIs within an education/learning context.
- Committed to continuing to strengthen their relationship with Te Ao Māori
