He angitūtanga: The opportunity

The Development Programme Office is involved in some of the most pivotal and ground breaking work contributing to the unprecedented growth in the Auckland’s history.  For Auckland to succeed with this growth, we need to get the prioritization and provision of infrastructure development, funding and financing and delivery right.  Infrastructure is fundamental for Auckland's growth, and we are at the leading edge of this work.  The Development Programme Office works on governance, strategy, oversight, programme and finance and funding solutions, including America’s Cup preparations, City Centre Redevelopment, Crown and Government Agencies, Developers and Contractors to enable the pace and scale of housing growth in greenfield and brownfield areas in the region.

The Lead: Development Strategy is integral to Council's infrastructure planning and growth. You'll guide developers through Council processes and ensure that our infrastructure is ‘fit for purpose’. With your strong planning skills, you will work closely with developers, infrastructure providers and Council specialists.  You'll be responsible for ensuring that infrastructure is delivered on time and communities can grow and thrive as a result. The Development Strategy team works closely with our Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs) and central government agencies to deliver housing across Auckland.


This includes co-ordination of the relevant technical, legal and financial inputs from other Council specialists.

You are someone who is experienced in planning, programme management and land development. You have knowledge of the built environment (infrastructure, development) and planning. You are an energetic team player capable of taking initiative to meet deadlines.


To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • an understanding and appreciation of the working and functions of development in Auckland, resource management processes and planning
  • the natural ability to find and negotiate solutions in a complex, legislative, policy and funding driven environment
  • an understanding of the local government environment
  • related qualifications or knowledge/experience in planning, development, construction or project management
