Established in 1888, the Gallery holds a preeminent collection of New Zealand art and a significant collection of international art, and presents a dynamic programme of temporary exhibitions, public engagement and outreach activities.

 

Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is looking to appoint a new Deputy Director Operations to provide overall operational leadership and to support the Director and the corporate performance of the Art Gallery.  In this exciting and strategic role, you will be working closely with the Director and Corporate Services teams at Auckland Unlimited.  The role provides strong management oversight and brings a strategic business focus to key parts of the Gallery’s activity.  The role is also accountable for implementing strategies and plans, setting comprehensive goals for performance and growth, and establishing policies that promote the Gallery’s culture and future vision. 

 

 

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

The successful candidate for this role will have extensive executive level operational management experience with a proven capability in managing business development and corporate operations to enhance business performance.  A powerful advocate and influencer, able to work effectively across all levels of internal and external stakeholder relations.

 

You will have strong communication and advocacy skills, and an exceptional track-record in developing a positive and high-performing culture, and be comfortable as a key member of the leadership team. You will have a keen openness to learn about the specific business functions and needs of a major collecting institution, and experience or strong knowledge of the public sector, not-for-profit arts industry and or the gallery and museum sectors.

 

You will also have:

  • Proven experience in effective management and accountability for a large budget
  • Proven ability to provide high-level and at times quite detailed input and stewardship, to multiple process and improvement projects in broad work areas including; building, ICT, HR, capital projects, and business operations and planning
  • Proven ability to manage a large team of direct and indirect reports and exceptional reporting and internal communication capability
  • Experiencing supporting strategic and business-as-usual HR initiatives, providing strong management to a team, and a proven capacity to motivate and coach staff, building a positive team culture
  • High level of written, verbal, analytical, financial literacy, and strategic planning skills
