He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Our team is expanding so this is a brand-new role where you can bring your fresh perspective to leverage data to inform decision making and solve real-world problems.
You will work within a team of data analysts, data engineers, business intelligence specialists, archivists and records administrators, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to leverage data insights for business strategy, operational efficiency, risk mitigation, and informed decision-making.
Additionally, you will build your network and foster strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement within the Data department.
As a Data Graduate at Auckland Council, you will help in creating data-driven solutions for identified problems and issues and communicating the results to a variety of staff and stakeholders.
Your day-to-day tasks may include:
- Create data models, analyse, and identify patterns to support business decisions.
- Data cleaning, transformation, and integration.
- Data analysis and reporting
- Automate reports and support BI and business objectives.
- Assist with report migration to PowerBI
- Assist with data migration to Snowflake
- Implementing Data Quality checks
- Managing Metadata & Lineage
- Working with our Records & Archives
Each rotation will provide a healthy mix of on-the-job learning, mentoring from experienced professionals and meaningful work.

- Master of Information Governance - UoA - Brand new (data analyst, data protection, AI, security)
To be eligible to apply, you must have the following:
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand for more than 3 years without sponsorship
- Minimum of a relevant Bachelor’s degree completed January 2024 – January 2026
