He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council’s Financial Strategy and Reporting department has an opportunity for a Data Analyst within the Financial Data & Processes team.

 

In this role, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining high-quality financial and non-financial data that supports budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting across the Council group. You will play a key role in ensuring data integrity, enabling accurate reporting, and supporting informed decision-making across the organisation.

 

Please note: This is a fixed-term, full-time position ending 22 October 2026.

 

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

  • Managing and reconciling financial and non-financial data sets to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Supporting monthly reporting processes and ensuring data is available on a timely and usable basis
  • Working closely with Financial Control and other stakeholders to align actuals with planning and budget frameworks
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to data processes, systems, and reporting efficiency
  • Supporting SAP-based data management and related financial systems

This role requires experience in financial and data analysis within a large, complex organisation, along with strong capability in financial systems, data reconciliation, and a continuous improvement mindset.

 

We are looking for someone with:

 

  • At least 3 years’ experience working with financial and/or non-financial data in a large organisation
  • Strong experience with SAP or similar enterprise financial systems
  • Proven ability in data reconciliation, reporting, and maintaining high data accuracy in complex environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on improving and streamlining processes
  • Ability to translate complex data issues into clear, practical solutions for stakeholders
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (finance, accounting, commerce, IT or similar – please refer to position description)
