He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Health, Safety and Wellbeing team has 2x permanent full-time opportunities for Contractor Safety Specialists to join the Contractor Safety Team. These are hybrid roles, based in Auckland CBD, with travel required across the region.

This role supports the implementation, embedding and continuous improvement of Auckland Council’s Contractor Safety Management Framework. You will help ensure contractor safety risks are understood, monitored and managed across the Auckland Council supply chain.

Working with internal and external stakeholders, you will support a collaborative, risk-based and consistent approach to contractor safety management, assurance, reporting and continuous improvement.

The remuneration range for these roles are $102,595– $108,630 depending on experience and skillset.

Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities

This role applies technical and operational expertise to support Auckland Council and its supply chain partners to meet HSW requirements, contractor safety expectations and overlapping PCBU duties.

Day to day you can expect to work on:

• Support the implementation and embedding of Auckland Council’s Contractor Safety Management Framework across the organisation.

• Support contractor safety monitoring and assurance activities, including site assurance, review of contractor safety information, follow-up of actions and contribution to the HSW Verification and Assurance Programme.

• Provide practical advice to internal stakeholders on contractor safety requirements, overlapping PCBU duties, assurance activities and contractor safety records.

• Build and maintain strong relationships across Auckland Council and the wider supply chain to support effective contractor safety management.

• Support the recording, monitoring and follow-up of contractor safety activities, including assurance inspections, monthly reporting, incidents, actions and contractor performance information.

• Support continuous improvement of contractor safety processes, tools, guidance and reporting.

He kōrero mōu: About you 

You will be an experienced and practical health and safety professional with contractor safety management experience and a solid understanding of HSW legislation, risk management and assurance.

You will be confident working with internal and external stakeholders, able to communicate clearly, provide practical advice, and support consistent contractor safety practices across complex operational environments.

We will be looking for:

• Minimum Level 4 qualification, or equivalent, in occupational health and safety.

• Recent experience supporting contractor safety, risk management, monitoring or assurance activities, preferably 4+ years.

• Technical knowledge of contractor safety management, HSW requirements and overlapping PCBU duties.

• Strong relationship management, communication, planning and prioritisation skills.

• Ability to support reporting, follow-up of actions, trend identification and continuous improvement.

• Evidence of ongoing professional development.

• Desirable: experience in infrastructure, facilities, construction, maintenance, public sector or another contractor-heavy operating environment.
