He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Help protect Tāmaki Makaurau’s environment and communities. Auckland Council is looking for a motivated Compliance Officer to join our Biosecurity Compliance Programme, supporting the delivery of high‑impact, multi‑disciplinary compliance services across the region.

In this role, you’ll contribute to proactive initiatives that identify patterns of risk and harm, reduce ongoing compliance issues, and strengthen biosecurity outcomes. Your work will span education, engagement, and enforcement — using the right intervention tools to address root causes and drive long‑term behaviour change.

You’ll collaborate with teams across council, partner agencies, and local communities, supporting the delivery of Māori outcomes and the Māori Responsiveness Plan for Tāmaki Makaurau.

This is a 40‑hour per week position, with agreed hours scheduled between Monday and Sunday, including participation in an on‑call roster.

He kōrero mōu: About you
You thrive in a dynamic environment and bring a strong understanding of compliance, risk, and regulatory practice. You’re confident working with diverse communities, navigating complex situations, and building relationships that support positive outcomes.

You’ll be involved in designing and delivering compliance projects, guiding customers through regulatory requirements, and contributing to continuous improvement across the programme.

What you’ll bring

  • Solid understanding of local government legislation, including the Resource Management Act, Building Act, Local Government Act, and Auckland’s Unitary Plan
  • Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong relationship‑building capability, including a desire to work within Māori frameworks
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a compliance or regulatory environment
  • A relevant technical or professional qualification in a compliance discipline
