Auckland Council has an exciting opportunity within their Communications team. We are on the hunt for a Communications Specialist with fresh thinking to take on this fixed term position, covering parental leave for 6 months. 


This role communicates the work being undertaken by the council group and its partners to create a strong and thriving region, building a sense of pride in our city and creating trust and confidence in council to get the job done.


Day-to-day you can expect to:
•    Work on a variety of work to support the organisation’s priorities but focused on developing and delivering communications plans for growth, development, and regional planning projects 
•    Collaborate across the council group to identify proactive communications opportunities and provide support for reactive media issues
•    Produce media releases and content across all our channels 
•    Provide advice, input and support to other teams on development and delivery of communications and marketing campaigns 
•    Work with a range of business partners and providing them with quality advice

You will have a strong sense of community and demonstrate an understanding of how to create and deliver effective communications strategies and campaigns that connect with all Aucklanders. You will have the proven ability to turn complex and technical information into accessible content; you will have a nose for a good story, understand all types of media channels; be a strong team player and be adaptable to change to meet the needs of the organisation.  


The successful candidate will:
•    Have a background in communications or PR with experience working in an agency or commercial enterprise.
•    Be competent using content management systems 
•    Be able to form strong, trusting relationships across the organisation 
•    Have proven ability to write compelling stories for multiple channels
•    Have media relationships
•    Be able to identify and manage communications risks 


This is an exciting opportunity for which you will need to bring your tenacity, enthusiasm and initiative. Deadlines, pressure and competing priorities all come with the job. Experience working in a large, diverse and complex organisation is highly desirable.
